The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. It is reserved for those students who maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA, and who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of service, leadership, and character. Students are eligible at the start of their junior year. An induction ceremony, which includes juniors and seniors, is held each fall. Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter. Membership must be maintained through the remainder of the student’s program at SST. It is both an honor and a privilege to be part of the South Shore Technical High School National Honor Society.
