As the flu season approaches, the South Shore Vocational Technical High School will be taking steps to keep its students and staff healthy. The school will be offering a school based flu clinic for students. The clinics will be offered during school hours, the week of October 5-9, 2015. One evening clinic will be offered on Tuesday October 6, 2015 6pm-7pm to allow parents who wish to accompany their child while they receive the vaccination.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health Vaccine for Children program is providing the flu vaccine for the students, so there is no cost to families. Parents who wish to have their child vaccinated must completely fill out the required student consent form. This form and the vaccine information sheet (VIS) can be found on the SSVT website under – “From the Nurse” in the Student Life tab. Forms will also be available at Meet Your Teacher night October 1.
In addition to getting vaccinated against the flu, students, parents and staff are encouraged to follow these tips to stay healthy this flu season:
- Wash hands often
- Avoid others who are sick
- Stay home if you are sick
- Cough into your bent arm at the elbow instead of into your hands
