Search the Databases: Where to start?

Student Research Center (Ebsco)
A one stop database that searches through Mas Ultra, Health Source, Newspaper Source, TOPICsearch, and Vocational and Career Collection. A great place to start your research.

Student Resources (Ebsco)
This database allows you to choose from and search through multiple databases at once. To search within a single database, click the database name. To select more than one database to search, check the boxes next to the databases and click Continue.

Gale Power Search (Infotrac)*
Under Cross-Searchable Databases, click "select all" or pick and choose databases depending on your topic. This feature lets you search multiple databases at the same time.

Biography in Context (Infotrac)*
Integrates biographies with related full-text articles from hundreds of magazines and newspapers, and tens of thousands of images and links to vetted websites. Search for people---both current and historic from all eras and fields of endeavor---based on name, occupation, nationality, ethnicity, birth/death dates and places, or gender, as well as keyword and full text. Or, combine search criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search.

Health Source--Consumer Edition (Ebsco)
The richest collection of consumer health information available to libraries worldwide, providing information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Health Source: Consumer Edition provides access to nearly 80 full text, consumer health magazines.

Health Reference Center Academic (Infotrac)*
Provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus the wide variety of personal health information sources in InfoTrac's award-winning Health Reference Center. All in a single, easy-to-use database, the material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only.

Health and Wellness Resource Center (Infotrac)*
Provides instant access to carefully compiled and trusted medical reference materials. Includes nearly 400 health/medical journals, hundreds of pamphlets, over 700 health-related videos from partner Healthology, Inc., and articles from 2,200 general interest publications in addition to a broad collection of Gale reference titles. Material contained in this Resource Center is intended for informational purposes only.

Science Reference Center (Ebsco)
A comprehensive research database that provides easy access to a multitude of full text science-oriented content. This database contains full text for nearly 640 science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, etc. Topics covered include: biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health & medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife.

Vocational and Career Collection (Ebsco)
Designed for vocational and technical libraries servicing high schools, community colleges, trade institutions and the general public. This collection provides full text coverage for nearly 340 trade and industry-related periodicals.

Current Issues: Environment (WilsonWeb)
Provides up-to-date reference materials, journal and periodical sources, as well as websites relating to current enviromental issues.

History & Social Issues

U.S. History in Context (Infotrac)*
Provides integrated access to over 4,000 historical (primary) documents, articles from more than 30 reference titles, and over 110 full-text journal covering themes, events, individuals and periods in U.S. history from pre-Colonial times to the present. Also includes citations from over 180 additional history journals from the Institute for Scientific Information's Arts and Humanities Citation Index, and the entire "American Journey Online" series.

Massachusetts History Online (Infotrac)*
Contains full-text articles gathered from almost 50 sources that directly relate to MA history.

Literary Reference Center (Ebsco)
Provides users with a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day. LRC is a comprehensive database that combines information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else. LRC contains detailed information on the most studied authors and their works and is an essential resource for public, academic and high school libraries.

NoveList(Ebsco)
A guide to fiction, including information on authors and their major works. Includes book lists, recommended reads, and book discussion guides.

Contemporary Literary Criticism Select (Infotrac)*
An extensive collection of more than 11,000 critical essays on contemporary authors. Each CLC--Select entry contains a biographical/critical introduction, a list of principal works, critical essays, and sources for further study. Updated monthly, Contemporary Literary Criticism--Select allows users to search by author name, title of work, nationality, subject/genre, ethnicity, critic name, and more.

Professional Development

Professional Development Collection(Ebsco)
Designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 520 high quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports. Professional Development Collection is the most comprehensive collection of full text education journals in the world.

Vocational and Career Collection (Ebsco)
Designed for vocational and technical libraries servicing high schools, community colleges, trade institutions and the general public. This collection provides full text coverage for nearly 340 trade and industry-related periodicals.

Educator's Reference Complete (Infotrac)*
A selection of more than 450 full-text academic journals, hundreds of full-text reports, and many premier reference sources. Included content focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education. Majority of the full-text titles included are also found in the ERIC database. The database is updated daily and provides 24-hour access from school or home.

Works Cited Resources

For assistance, check with Ms. Lebo or your English teacher. Note that there are different styles used to cite sources. Most classes require you to use the MLA style. However, teachers may prefer other styles such as APA.
